Invoice Payments FAQ

Quick answers to common Invoice Payments questions.

Where can I use Invoice Payments?

Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. Payments are taken in your company's currency.

Who can set up Invoice Payments?

In Factory, an Administrator or Power User. In Stripe, someone with authority to act for the business, who completes identity checks.

Can I add a payment button to an invoice I've already sent?

No. The button only goes on invoices created after Stripe is connected and your template is set up. Create a new invoice if you need one with a payment link.

Can customers pay in instalments?

Not on a single invoice. Use partial invoices (for example, 50% deposit and 50% on completion) and your customer pays each one separately.

Can my customers still pay by bank transfer?

Yes. Record those payments in Factory so they sync to your accounting.

Who pays the card fee?

  • Australia: you do. 1.65% + 30c plus GST, taken out before Stripe pays out.

  • United Kingdom: you do. 1.5% + 20p on standard UK cards (higher on premium and overseas cards), taken out before Stripe pays out.

  • New Zealand: your customer, at checkout, to cover Stripe's 2.65% + 30c.

  • United States: your customer, at checkout, to cover Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢.

  • Canada: your customer, at checkout, to cover Stripe's 2.9% + CA$0.30.

Where your customer pays, the card fee is calculated so you receive the full invoice amount, so they pay slightly more than Stripe's rate. On a $1,000 invoice, that's $1,027.53 in New Zealand and $1,030.18 in the US and Canada. See Invoice Payments fees.

Why is my payout less than the invoices?

In Australia and the UK, Stripe takes its fee before paying out, and groups several payments into one payout. Add the fees as an expense when you match the payout in your accounting. See After a payment: accounting sync, refunds and disputes.

Do you support Apple Pay or Google Pay?

Not yet. Cards only for now.

Is it secure?

Yes. Card details go straight to Stripe, which holds the highest level of payment security certification (PCI DSS Level 1). Factory never sees or stores card data.

Can I change my payout schedule?

Yes, in your Stripe dashboard, once your account is established.
