Sales Orders: Changing the Customer for an Order

Easily update the Customer on an existing Order without starting over.

Overview

If an Order was created for the wrong Customer, the Customer can be changed directly—removing the need to recreate the Order from scratch.

👥 Access Permissions: only users with assigned permissions for creating Quotes and Sales Orders will see this option. Please review user roles prior commencing.

📍Where to find it in the app:

  • Global Search > search and select a Sales Order > Options

  • Sales > Sales Orders > select a Sales Order > Options

  • Sales > Customers > select a Customer > search and select a Sales Order > Options.


How to change the Customer on an Order

  1. Ensure the Order is not in Draft status

  2. Go to Options > Change customer

  3. In the pop-up window, search for and select the new Customer

  4. Click Change customer to confirm.

📝Notes:

  • Changing the Customer will clear all contact and address details from the Order, but all product and pricing information will remain unchanged

  • The Order will be set back to Draft status, allowing further changes if needed

  • If integrated, any linked Order in the accounting package will be deleted and recreated under the new Customer.
