Guide to resolving common issues when setting up your Stripe account

Troubleshooting Stripe Setup

Most Stripe accounts are approved instantly. If you run into an issue during setup, here are the most common causes and how to resolve them.

Business name rejected

The name you entered doesn't match your ABN registration exactly. Use the exact legal name as registered with the ATO. You can check this on the ABN Lookup website.

Bank account rejected

The BSB or account number is incorrect, or the account holder name doesn't match your business legal name. Double-check your details with your bank before re-entering them.

Identity verification failed

The photo ID was blurry or the name on the ID doesn't match the director details you entered. Re-upload a clear, well-lit photo showing all four corners of the document.

Address mismatch

The business address you entered doesn't match your ATO or NZBN records. Use the address exactly as it appears on your government business registration.

Setup stuck on verification

In some cases Stripe requires additional review, which can take 1–2 business days. If it has been longer than that, contact our support team and we can help follow it up.

General tips

  • All requirements and limits are set by Stripe, not Factory. Factory cannot override or expedite Stripe's verification process.

  • Stripe setup can be completed on mobile or desktop β€” both work fine.

  • If you get stuck or see an error that isn't covered here, reach out through the chat in Factory and we'll help you get sorted.
